Theodor Swanson Earns Eagle Honors

His Eagle project honors local firefighters in the Lower Macungie Fire Department.

Editors Note: The following profile of a new Eagle Scout from Troop 431 is one  of six in a series that will run before the story of their Court of Honor is published.

senior Theodor Swanson, 18, was one of six young men to receive his Eagle Award Feb. 4 at in Wescosville.

He began scouting 10 years ago with Cub Pack 431 and is now a member of Boy Scout Troop 431 of East Texas.  Since joining Troop 431, he has served as quartermaster and assistant patrol leader.

He earned 21 merit badges, hiked 255 miles, and camped 82 nights with Troop 431. Ted participated in two High Adventure trips -- the C&O Canal Bike Trip and the Philmont Scout reservation, and he has twice earned the Troop’s quarterly “Scout Leaders’ Recognition Award.” 

For his Eagle Project, he designed and installed a paver walkway and landscape garden at the 's new firehouse on Sauerkraut Road to commemorate the service of local volunteer firefighters. The walkway contains 49 engraved pavers with the names of those who committed themselves to a lifetime of service. To finish the project, a bench was installed in memory of Nicholas Caldarelli, a volunteer firefighter killed by a drunk driver.

Theodor is the son of Marc and Caryn Swanson of Lower Macungie Township, and he has a sister, Claire, and a brother, Matthew.

Ted enjoys acting and is a participant in the EHS drama department. He has been a cast member of six shows, including and the Rev. Hale in "The Crucible."He is a member of three Emmaus High School choral groups: Chorale, Select Choir and Fermata Nowhere.

Theodor is a member of the French Club, National Honor Society, French Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Following graduation, he plans to attend college but is undecided as to which one at this time.  He hopes to continue his interest in theatre and music.
