Key to Awesomeness:  Karisa chose the project, ‘How Different pH levels Affect Common Metals” for her science fair entry.

She said, “I soaked five different metals (zinc, copper, nickel, brass, and stainless steel) each in five different pH levels (1.2, 4.4, 7.0, 9.2, and 10.2) for five weeks.

“Every three days I took observations on how they corroded,” she said. She found that some corroded, while others didn’t, which told her pH levels definitely affect metal corrosion.

Karisa’s favorite subject in school is science.  She also enjoys drawing, writing, running, singing, doing Irish dancing and acting. She is a member of Reading Olympics.

This past school year, she was involved in the school’s musical, “Once on This Island,” in which she did some singing and dancing.

When she graduates from high school, Karisa would like to pursue the medical field but has no college in mind at this time.
