Willow Lane School is Ready for Walkers, Officials Say

Traffic control improvements made to prepare Willow Lane for life as a "walking school."

Willow Lane Elementary will be ready for kids to walk to school, Lower Macungie's township manager said Friday.

“We’re well within our way of getting things done for the 26th," manager Bruce Fosselman said.

That work includes installing crosswalks, curb cuts and putting up warning signs. He said the township still needs to hire crossing guards.

Meanwhile, East Penn Superintendent Thomas Seidenbeger told the Express-Times last month he expected traffic improvements to be ready in time for the start of school.

The East Penn School Board voted last year to defund bus transportation for students who live within 1.5 miles of Willow Lane, which school officials have said was designed to be "a walking school."
