Tryouts for EYA Travel Basketball Start Soon

All boys in grades three through nine in East Penn School District may try out for an Emmaus Youth Association Travel Basketball team.

The Emmaus Youth Association welcomes boys in grades three through nine in East Penn School District to try out for fall/winter travel baskeball.

The cost of the program is $50 plus a $35 travel fee, according to EYA> In addition, families will be expected to cover a $20 fundraising fee, either by selling a coupon book or choosing the "buyout" option.

On the EYA website, travel basketball is described as a "good opportunity for a young player to improve his skills, play in a more competitive league, and enjoy basketball."

Tryouts will begin in October, and team selection will be made by Nov 1. EYA is a United Way organization, the website says, and scholarships are available.

Here's how the travel basketball teams break down by level:

  • Third & Fourth Grade – third and fourth-grade
  • Junior Cadet – fifth and sixth-grade
  • The Jr. Cadet team plays in the Lehigh Valley Jr. Cadet Basketball League, which consists of approximately sixteen teams from the Lehigh Valley area.
  • Cadet Team – seventh-grade
  • The team competes in the Lehigh Valley Knee High Basketball League includes approximately 22 teams from the Lehigh Valley area.
  • Knee High Team – eighth and ninth-grade
  • Any player competing on a Freshman team is not eligible for this team.  The team competes in the Lehigh Valley Knee-Hi Basketball League.
