Turnpike NE Extension to Close for 6 Hours Sunday

Pa. Turnpike Northeast Extension will be closed for six hours Sunday between Lansdale and Quakertown.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission cautions motorists that a 13-mile stretch of the Northeastern Extension (I-476) will be closed in both directions for six hours on Sunday, Aug. 25 between Lansdale (Exit #31) and Quakertown (Exit #44).

The closure is necessary for the protection of motorists and workers during placement of concrete girders on the bridge that carries Fretz Road over the Turnpike at milepost A31.7 in Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County.

At 12:01 a.m. Aug. 25, southbound traffic will be diverted to the Quakertown Interchange and northbound traffic to the Lansdale Interchange. Motorists wishing to travel north from the Mid-County Interchange or the east/west Turnpike mainline will be directed to exit at Lansdale Interchange. One lane in each direction on the Northeastern Extension will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m.

Prior to the shutdown, motorists should be prepared for the left lanes to be closed northbound and southbound at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 between milepost A31-A33. The speed limit will be posted at 40 mph until the single-lane patterns are lifted. Construction-zone speed limits will be enforced and fines increased.

Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the Lansdale and Quakertown interchanges to assist motorists. Motorists can tune to radio 1640 AM for detour information and traffic conditions or call the Turnpike Roadway Information line at 866.976.8747. Changeable message signs will also provide updated information regarding closures and detours. Motorists are encouraged to plan accordingly. For emergencies, dial *11 on your mobile phone.
