A Flea Mkt of Goodies

It was a beautiful morning to be at Macungie Memorial Park checking out the Flea Market goodies. The Lower Lehigh Lions are to be congratulated. Did you go?

This is a day people look forward to all winter. It’s a day to share the wares; display those items long forgotten but recently found while cleaning out the garage or attic. “Let’s get rid of this junk” is the cry when uncovering the memorabilia brought back from the summer vacation. But where do you go to unload these “precious items”……”I know” says the wife or husband, “let’s get a table at the Lower Lehigh Lions Club Flea Market in Macungie Memorial Park."

So there they are sitting behind rows of card tables, folding tables, or just a blanket lying on the grass. They’re not alone, there’s over 200 other spots where people just like them are showing off the items they couldn’t do without. Can you find a “buy?" You sure can. What’s the old saying “someone’s junk is the other person’s treasure” or something like that.

Joy & I  didn’t take a table this year and chose instead to walk our legs off….up and down the aisles, rummaging through boxes of books (did find authors I read) and thoroughly examining the tables of glassware, coffee cups, screwdrivers, hammers, etc. We did happen to meet several friends who were sharing their collectables as well. Maybe they know something we don’t because it seemed like there were many more buyers out than usual this year. I did notice the market was pretty much void of Christmas paraphernalia; colored lights, ceramic trees¸ Santa Clause pictures, garland, etc. Usually these items are in abundance since owners “dump” them in May or in September (the next Lions date).  Funny thing though, the owners will probably purchase the very same items next Christmas season at the local Walmart. Suppose it’s good for the economy tho.

Finally, we arrived back home with tired legs and a bag full of goodies. We patted ourselves on the back for making some good buys. Hopefully when opening up the various boxes and bags nothing will be missing or broken. All in all it was a good day, can’t wait for the next one in early September…..Wow, there goes the summer….looks like I’m wishing my life away doesn't it?
