Celebrating the 4th on the 5th

Lots of good fun and important information always is in abundance at our LMT Seniors Club meetings. We have a seat reserved for you, why not join us?

With Independence Day falling one day prior to our regular meeting day our members still celebrated the great day by gathering together for the three main ingredients  for seniors; Fun, Food & Fellowship.

With well over 100 members & guests in attendance we “chowed down” (Navy / Coast Guard term) on delicious Pizza (plain, pepperoni, & meat) Yes I know the 4th of July is normally the day for Mom’s Apple Pie but that’s scheduled for our next mtg on July 19. Who doesn’t like pizza?

Our “Independence Day Plus One” mtg was opened by a lovely young lady singing God Bless America followed by The Star Spangled Banner. Our young guest was Ms. Skylar Gutman, granddaughter for our members Matt & Arleen Gutman. Skylar a ten (10) year student (who turned 11 on July 6) is in the Parkland School District and is quite the local vocalist having participated by singing at the Annual Flag Day Celebration and the great Allentown Band Concert recently held at William Allen High School (rain took it indoors from West Park). What a musical future this young lady has to look forward to. Way to go Skylar.

Also joining us to celebrate the day was Joe Zeller, a well-known Lehigh Valley personality and former Mayor of Emmaus and Legislator of the 134th PA District. Joe’s also very much involved in many Veterans Organizations; Commander of the Military Nursing Corps, VFW Post 12009; Officer w/ the Festival of Bands; Allentown Flag Day Association. At 92 years young, Joe mesmerized the audience with tales of the beginning of our nation’s independence, along with stories of his political experiences while representing his many followers in Harrisburg when he was a Legislator and Emmaus when he was Mayor. As VFW Post 12009 Commander, Joe is out “beating the bushes” for funds to help continue the support that wonderful group of Veterans. Way to go Joe.

Our thanks go out to LMT Seniors Members Matt Gutman, Walter Toth, Walter Ross, & Joe Lentz for arraigning this wonderful “Independence Day Plus One” program in order to celebrate our great country’s 235th anniversary.  You'll note that we welcomed President Abraham Lincoln too.
