Lock Ridge Park

Half of beautiful Lock Ridge Park is located in Lower Macungie Township, and the other half is in the borough of Alburtis. This well-kept, extremely scenic open space was the site of an enormous anthracite iron furnace built in 1868. The industry at the same time built and consumed the borough, enabling it to build homes, schools and satellite businesses while it provided dangerous and sometimes deadly jobs for residents. It was also but one of the Lehigh Valley sites that fed the nation's industrial growth.

This park possesses a dignified beauty in the stonework shells of the once all-consuming industry for which it was built. Today, guests enjoy a ball game, event or tour of the rebuilt furnace room, the engine house and cast house.
