Lower Macungie Township Fire Department opened its second fire station in January 2010 at Sauerkraut and Willow lanes. The new station allows faster response times to emergencies for some areas of the township and provides additional space for equipment and activities. The township has approximately 50 volunteer firefighters and fire police officers between this new station and its existing facility in Wescosville.
