Ruth Leona Hoover Lichtenwalner passed away on April 23, 2012, at 90 years of age.

Ruth Leona Hoover Lichtenwalner passed away on April 23, 2012, at 90 years of age. Ruth's greatest joys were her family, traveling, and sharing time and meals with friends and family. Born September 24, 1921 on a farm in Conewago Township, York County, PA, Ruth was the third of nine children of Paul David Hoover and his wife the former Florence Newcomer. Ruth earned a Registered Nurse degree and worked at York Hospital before marrying Charles Benjamin Lichtenwalner of Macungie, PA on March 10, 1946. For 31 years Ruth and Charles resided on a Farm on Brookside Road near East Texas, PA, raising four children before moving a mile away to the Lichtenwalner Family homestead. Irvin S. Kulp, Sr., 74, of Old Zionsville, died April 15, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was predeceased by Corinne E Kulp, his wife of 55 years. Born in Macungie, he was the son of the late Irvin B. and Charlotte (Wellington) Kulp. He honorably served in the 5th Infantry of the Army in Germany for three years. He enjoyed fishing, visits to Delaware, and watching westerns.  Survivors: Children, Jess Kulp of Quakertown, Irvin S. Virginia Lisk Rems, 77, of Macungie, died April 12, 2012 in her residence. She was the widow of the late Robert D. Lisk and Wilbur P. Rems. Born in Mercer County, OH on her grandmother’s farm, she was the daughter of the late Mabel M. (Bigelow) Detrick and John W. and Alice (Sweeney) Detrick. She was employed at the Allentown Art Museum as assistant curator, Aten Insurance, and Bear Swamp Beverage. Donald C. Wieder, 93, died March 28, 2012 in The Village at Willow Lane.

Donald C. Wieder, 93, formerly of Macungie, and Grand Junction Colorado for 36 years died March 28, 2012 in The Village at Willow Lane. He was the husband of Emma B. (Swank) Wieder. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in April 2011. Born in Macungie, he was the son of the late Alton J. and Carrie M. (Miller) Wieder. He worked for Air Products, Mack Trucks, Inc., and as a carpenter for Grand Junction School District, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Solomon’s U.C.C., Macungie, and the Macungie VFW. He honorably served his country in the Army during WWII, earning 3 Bronze stars. Brad M. Wlazelek

Feb. 12, 1982-June 20, 2011

He arrived late and left us much too early. Brad M. Wlazelek was 29 when he died at home in Upper Macungie Township. Born in Allentown, the son of Bruce and Ann Wlazelek with whom he lived, Brad was an incredibly smart, handsome, sensitive and talented young man who struggled off and on for years with drug problems that ultimately took his life. He graduated from Parkland High School’s class of 2000 and was a dean’s list student before earning a “professional writing” degree from Penn State’s Lehigh Valley campus in 2005. He held many jobs, including his first at Yocco’s at age 15, and his last at the Wingate Hotel in Lower Macungie Township, where he was a front desk clerk for more than a year. Kelly E. Smith, 42, of Slatington, died Monday April 18, 2011, in Upper Macungie Township. She was the wife of Kenneth A. Smith Jr. They celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary last May. Born in Allentown on May 25, 1968, she was a daughter of Herman J. Williams II and Carol A. (Ferry) Williams of Slatington. She graduated from Northern Lehigh High School in 1986. Kelly was a school bus driver for Parkland School District for the past 12 years. She was previously employed as a day care worker for Park Avenue Day Care, Neffs, and a longtime member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Howertown. Refrigerator passed away not so quietly in Lower Milford last week.

Hotpoint Refrigerator, age unknown, of Lower Milford passed away Friday night outside its home in Lower Milford. Beloved appliance of 1377 Blue Church Road. The refrigerator, known to his friends and neighbors as “Fridge,” was manufactured at a plant in Kentucky sometime between 1989 and 2007.   After graduating from the factory, Fridge was a career appliance, serving in the kitchen from 2000 until passing away. Fridge is best known for his role in keeping food cold, as well as the freezer burn incident of 2008. “He was such a quiet Fridge,” said friend and longtime neighbor, the dishwasher. “Always humming, but never a bother.” Others agreed. “I really admired his efficiency,” said another neighbor, the microwave. James Leuthe, 69, died Tuesday, March 29.

James L. Leuthe, 69, of Allentown, died Tuesday evening, March 29, 2011, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Catherine Jaindl-Leuthe. The couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this past January 19. Born in Scranton, March 2, 1942, Jim was the son of Dolores (Merkel) Leuthe Bray of Collegeville, formerly of Mill City, and the late George J. Althea and Jeannette Walbert were found slain in their home Friday.

Funeral services for homicide victims Althea and Jeannette Walbert who were found dead March 11 in their home, 122 Cobblestone Court, Alburtis, will be held at 9:30 a.m. March 17  in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown, according to published reports. Contributions can be made to the memorial fund at the women's church, Longswamp UCC Church, 200 Clay Road, Mertztown 19539.
