Macungie-area woman receives minor injuries from crash into utility police, troopers report.
A natural pain in her leg has led to a few headaches as well for a Macungie-area woman whose car recently crashed into a utility pole in Lower Macungie Township as a result, according to police. Donna M. Kachurick, 51, was driving south on Willow Lane at 10:48 p.m. Feb. 6. As she approached Mulberry Lane, she felt a cramp in her right leg, according to state police at Fogelsville. Her leg stiffened as a result, pushing down on the accelerator and causing her Pontiac Grand Am to speed up, police said. She next pulled the steering wheel to redirect the car, but she drove off the western berm of Willow Lane and into a utility pole with her right front bumper. Motorist unsuccessfully tries to pass Breinigsville driver and doesn't stop after collision on bypass in Lower Macungie, troopers report.
A passing motorist on the Route 222 Bypass in Lower Macungie Township got caught short recently but left another driver holding the bag -- or dented car parts, according to police. Jack Mack, 82, of Breinigsville was traveling northbound in the right lane of Route 222 between Krocks and Kressler roads at 9:45 a.m. Jan. 31, according to state police at Fogelsville. Another vehicle passed him on the left, but cut in front of him when it was realized there was another vehicle ahead in the left lane. The other driver quickly cut in front of Mack's Kia Sadona, but struck his left corner with his right rear portion of the vehicle, police said. A Macungie-area driver was slightly hurt recently when a vehicle crossed into her lane and struck her vehicle in Lower Macungie Township, police said. Wendy G. Santini, 52, was traveling west on Lower Macungie Road at 6:42 p.m. Jan. 25 when a car traveling east crossed the center line, according to state police at Fogelsville. The Honda CRV driven by Anne A. Alexander, 48, of Bethesda, Md., struck the Honda Insight driven by Santini on the driver's side of the vehicle. Amanda C. MacBride and a Mertztown passenger were injured in airborne car that hit two trees before getting bounced back onto Lower Macungie roadway, troopers report.
Two area women were injured Jan. 26 when their vehicle hit a tree, was catapulted onto the passenger's side bumper and struck another tree, police said. The driver, Amanda C. MacBride, 20, of Macungie was moderately hurt, according to state police at Fogelsville. Her passenger, Amy N. Sauerwald, 19, of Mertztown was slightly injured. MacBride was driving her 2001 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on Longswamp Road near Smith Lane at 2:40 p.m., police said. She failed to round a curve and drove off the roadway, striking a tree. The car went airborne, landing on the shoulder with the right front corner digging into the dirt, police said. Lower Macungie bypass is site of another injury accident, troopers report.
A Schuylkill County man was slightly hurt recently when he turned in front of a pickup truck on the Route 222 Bypass, according to police. Douglas N. Martlock, 38, of Orwigsburg was traveling southbound on Route 222 at 1 p.m. Jan. 18, according to state police at Fogelsville. He was turning left onto Kressler Road but turned into the path of the pickup truck driven by Brian R. Supp, 40, of Schnecksville. Supp could not avoid striking Martlock's Chevrolet Impala with his Chevrolet Silverado, police said. Both vehicles were disabled, requiring towing. Emmaus man's SUV rolls over on Lower Mac roadway after he falls asleep and vehicle takes its own course, troopers report.
An Emmaus man recently took a wild ride on a Lower Macungie Township back road after he fell asleep and woke up upside down with his vehicle on its roof, according to police. Michael A. Jones, 25, was traveling east on Mountain Road at 6:34 a.m. Jan. 7, according to state police at Fogelsville. Jones fell asleep and his 2003 Subaru Forester went off the roadway and along an embankment. The sport-utility vehicle traveled about 45 feet sideways and then struck a tree with the driver's side front end, police said. Structure at Mountain and Schoeneck roads has been hit several times by turning trucks.
A Lower Macungie barn that has become an unintentional target for hit-and-run drivers has been hit again, according to police. A concrete barrier and shed that is attached to the barn at Mountain and Schoeneck roads was struck by a truck trailer between 6 p.m. Jan. 2 and 8:30 a.m. Jan. 3, according to state police at Fogelsville. The tractor-trailer was traveling east on Mountain Road and attempting to turn north onto Schoeneck Road. The driver did not stop to report the accident, and police said they did not know if the trucker was injured. Police did not have a description of the truck. He drifts off to sleep, then wakes to his car striking trees and an ambulance ride, troopers report.
An Allentown-area man woke Jan. 2 to something worse than his screeching alarm clock. Jason Richardson, 22, was jolted awake at 6:20 a.m. as his car crashed into a tree, spun and crashed into another in Lower Macungie Township, according to state police at Fogeslville. Richardson was driving his Nissan Altima southbound on Minesite Road near Riverbend Road when he fell asleep and drifted off the right shoulder, police said. He swerved and struck a tree on the left side of the road with his right-side quarter panel. The impact spun his car, causing it to strike another tree with his left-side quarter panel, police said. A 19-year-old "driver" received an ambulance ride and a "calling card" to remember his skateboard ride by late last month in Lower Macungie Township, according to police. Devon P. Jacobus of Macungie was moderately injured Nov. 28 when he was struck on his skateboard by a vehicle. Despite being the one who was struck and injured, Jacobus was charged as a pedestrian for improperly crossing an intersection and failing to yield the right-of-way to a motor vehicle, according to a report released Dec. 23 by state police at Fogelsville. Spilled coffee diverts attention of Jim Thorpe man, causing him to rear-end Alburtis motorist and sending her to a hospital, troopers report.
Many of us like the boost of caffeine that a cup of coffee gives us in the morning, but two motorists in Lower Macungie recently could have done without a resulting jolt. Justin V. Yaich, 32, of Jim Thorpe was sipping his coffee as he drove north on Route 100 in the township at 6:53 a.m. Dec. 13, according to state police at Fogelsville. The coffee spilled in his lap, causing him to look down. As he did, police said, he did not see the car driven by an Alburtis woman stopped in front of him and waiting to turn onto Creamery Road. Yaich's pickup truck struck the rear end of a Mercury Sable driven by Conchita C. Featherston. That intersection is too large, and too many people take chances or underestimate how long it will take to get through the intersection.
