Buckeye Road May Remain Closed Through Thanksgiving

Township Manager Dan DeLong tells Upper Milford Supervisors that Buckeye Road will probably remain closed for a while following Sunday night's fatal accident, fuel spill.

Township Manager Dan DeLong told the Upper Milford Board of Supervisors at Monday night’s meeting that Buckeye Road likely will remain closed through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The road has been shut down since a Sunday night collision between a fuel tanker truck and a passenger car that left a Macungie man dead and resulted in 2,500 gallons of fuel oil spilling onto the roadway. Cleanup efforts are under way, and large quantities of contaminated soil have been and continue to be removed under the supervision of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), DeLong reported. “They’re doing as much as they can do,” he said. “It’s a major problem.” Supervisor Robert Sentner emphasized that Buckeye Road is a state road under the …

Upper Milford Township Awaits Answers on Buckeye Road

Upper Milford Township Manager Dan DeLong says the township is waiting to hear from the Department of Environmental Protection on how long Buckeye Road will remain closed following a fatal accident and large diesel fuel spill Sunday night.

Upper Milford Township is waiting for answers from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) about the extent of cleanup that needs to be done along Buckeye Road following a fatal accident and large diesel fuel spill, according to Township Manager Dan DeLong. Buckeye Road in Upper Milford Township has been closed since a car collided with a diesel fuel truck Sunday night, killing a Macungie man and dumping approximately 2,500 gallons of fuel oil on the roadway. “It’s a mess out there,” DeLong said, describing trenches along both sides of the road ranging from 4- to 12-feet deep.
