Burglars Target Jewelry in Lower Mac Neighborhood

Two break-ins are in same neighborhood, police say, but entry time is months apart.

Two recent Lower Macungie Township burglaries reported by police and involving stolen jewelry offer similarities, but happened months apart, police say. In the earlier break-in, state police at Fogelsville said they received a report on Aug. 28 of a burglary at 4799 Sydney Close. A prying device, such as a crowbar, was used on a door to force entry. Once inside, four pieces of jewelry were taken. Police did not provide a description or total value of the stolen items. No other items were taken. The break-in was reported by an 81-year-old woman, police said. She told them the incident occurred between Nov. 24, 2011 and May 30, 2012. In the second  burglary, Joseph H. Police: Thief Steals $16,000 in Air Conditioner Parts

That incident, and a second, seem consistent with scrap metal burglaries.

The owner probably will never know what the thief received for selling the cooling coils from his three commercial air-conditioning units. What he does know is that the missing coils and any damage done leaves him with a $16,000 hole in his pocket. A second recent Lower Macungie Township incident, unknown whether it is related, has another area business missing some some heating and cooling equipment as well. In both instances, the equipment likely was sold at scrap prices. State police at Fogelsville are investigating a report of a theft of the coils between June 25 and Aug. 20 at 8007 Quarry Road. The location is listed online as being the China and Lamp Crystal Exchange. Police said the owner is Alexander G. Tamerler of Orefield. …

Two Arrested in $7,300 Lower Mac Burglary

Pair also commits break-ins in Berks, Montgomery counties, police say.

If good things happen to those who wait, then perhaps the two months that followed the $7,300 burglary were at least somewhat worthwhile for a Lower Macungie Township man. Steven Krause was the victim in early June of stolen tools from a barn at 7765 Mountain Road in the township. Two arrests were announced Aug. 10 in a news release from state police at Fogelsville. But Krause was not a lone victim. The two men also committed several residential burglaries in Montgomery and Berks counties, which eventually led to their capture, according to police. Zachary Simon, 19, and Shawn Lee, 21, both with Gilbertsville addresses in Montgomery County, were charged with several burglaries, including the one in Lower Macungie, police said. Lee was …
