Airborne Car Strikes Residence Rooftop in Lower Macungie

Police say vehicle was traveling at high speed and failed to stop at intersection.

A Lower Macungie Township neighborhood woke early Tuesday to the sights and sounds of a spectacular crash in which a car was catapulted and struck a rooftop, according to police. Stephen Sutter, 31, of East Stroudsburg was traveling at high speed northbound on Fish Hatchery Road at 3:51 a.m., according to state police at Fogelsville. He failed to stop for a stop sign at East Texas Road and jumped a lawn embankment and a landscaping boulder, then went airborne before hitting the rooftop at 4151 East Texas Road. The Chevrolet Cavalier landed on its wheels with Sutter trapped inside, police said. He had to be extricated by the Lower Macungie Fire Department with power tools.
