Emmaus High to Present 'Beauty and the Beast' in 2014

The Spring 2014 musical at Emmaus High School will be "Beauty and the Beast" if all goes according to plan.

Special to Emmaus Patch By Chrissy Cilento, Emmaus High School Senior The Emmaus High School Drama Department has made the announcement that EHS will be presenting "Beauty and the Beast" next year as its spring musical. Director Jill Kuebler posted on the Emmaus High School website that the show will run March 19-22, 2014 and auditions will be in November of the 2013-2014 school year.  The announcement has caused much buzz among the theater students at EHS, who are already anticipating auditions and beginning to prepare for the roles they want. A Word From Our East Penn Students

College Costs Way Too Much, Emmaus High Student Says

Emmaus High School sophomore Kelsey Patterson contemplates the rising cost of college education.

Special to Emmaus Patch by Kelsey Patterson College; it is a simple yet complex word most teenagers my age think about. Progressing through high school, this word appears in our lives almost every day. When thinking about college, many things pop into a young person’s head. Where will I go to college? What will I major in? How far will I be from home? The most important question a teen can ask themselves in this generation is, “How much will college cost?” College tuition in community colleges alone have risen 40% over the past decade. As for four-year public schools, their rates have gone up by 68%. It should not be outrageously expensive for anyone in the United States to better their knowledge by attending college. College is a …

Hindsight, I'm happy I did the undergrad thing. I wouldnt be the same person had I not. That being said, I did transfer credits from LCCC to a 4 year. So I saved money that way. And I went to a state school which was at the time a good value. I'm guessing it still is. No I am not using my specific degree.... BUT college is the kind of thing where you get out of it what you put into it. I was …   more ›

Special to Patch by Nina Rowan, Emmaus High School sophomore By now, most of America is all too familiar with the gritty details of the tragic Boston Marathon Bombing that occurred on April 15th of this year. Well, it’s less than month later, and already Emmaus High School is doing something to help. The high school’s efforts to help the victims of the tragedy began few weeks ago, when the EHS student government started selling “Boston Strong” t-shirts to students and faculty. When they realized what a success the t-shirt fundraiser was, they knew they needed to do something bigger to benefit those affected by the bombing. On Sunday, May 19th, the EHS student government will be hosting a running festival entitled “Giving Back Around the …

See Emmaus Grad on 'Jeopardy' Monday

The 'Jeopardy' college tournament of champions will feature an Emmaus High School graduate on Monday.

Final Answer: Laura Rigge  Question: What is the name of the 2010 Emmaus High School graduate who can be seen on the "Jeopardy" College Championship airing Monday at 7 p.m. on ABC? Rigge, who lives in Emmaus, battled against 14 other contestants who, along with Rigge, are described in a "Jeopardy" press release as “America’s sharpest college students.” The prize is $100,000 and an automatic slot in the Jeopardy Tournament of Champions.  To qualify for the college tournament, Rigge and the other competitors took a 50-question online test. “I saw the test online, so I did it,” Rigge said. “I tried as a teen and didn’t make it.”  Those who passed the test were selected at random to attend regional in-person auditions consisting of a second 50…

EHS 'Shave for the Brave' Raises $47,700 for Pediatric Cancer Research

Emmaus High School Track & Field team outdoes itself again for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

When the Emmaus High School Track and Field team was gearing up for its third St. Baldrick’s Foundation kids' cancer fundraiser, it was still very proud of the $39,921 it raised in 2011—as well it should have been. With 120 people shaved, a grand total of $47,700 was raised for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a California-based group that funds childhood cancer research.  Shannon Petrunak, EHS Track & Field coach, thanked the honorees for their inspiration, the selfless shavees, hardworking volunteers, barbers and generous donors. “Emmaus is an awesome community, and I'm a very proud teacher, coach, VEO (Volunteer Event Organizer), and four-…

Shawn when did you grow up, we did all of the things you stated at those ages. We also got our permits at 16 and a week later, even a day later could have held the actual license. Children are not as stupid as society thinks they are, however the longer we treat them like they are still babies the more irresponsible things they will do because most of the time children want attention when they …   more ›
