Fire Company:  Danner has been a firefighter with the Macungie Fire Department for six months, after serving five years coming with the Vera Cruz Fire Company. Training so far:  “I am trained in vehicle rescue, essentials (interior firefighting and exterior firefighting), EMT (emergency medical training) and more.  We are training in something.” What's it like being a firefighter?  “I enjoy it. I got into firefighting and rescue after my father was injured in a tractor accident. Fire company:  He is the first assistant chief at Alburtis Fire Department. Name:  Tom Johnson Age:  24 Lives:  Lower Macungie Township Family:  At this time, Tom is single and has no children.  He graduated from Drexel University where he studied Information Technology. Job:  He is currently employed at PPL. Fire company:  “I am a firefighter and the computer man here at [Lower Macungie Fire Department].” Training so far:  “I am trained in vehicle rescue, water rescue and boat rescue.  I also have EMS training (Emergency Medical Services) and am trained to handle a hazard material situation.  But training is ongoing.  We take classes several times a year in addition to the weekly training.” What's it like being a firefighter?  “I enjoy it. Alburtis Fire Chief Follows in his Father’s Footsteps

He can’t imagine his life without being a firefighter.

Name:  Donald Smith Jr. Age:  29 Lives:  Borough of Alburtis Family:  wife Tiffany and two sons—Jayden, 5, and Riley, 2 Job:  He is a supervisor for Lehigh County Dispatch 911. Fire company:  This is his first year as the chief of the Alburtis Volunteer Fire Department.  For the past five years he had been the assistant chief. Training so far:  “I am trained as an instructor, use of ropes in a rescue, water rescue, vehicle rescue, and lots more.  Training is ongoing. On Aug. 21 we trained in a condemned house in Trexlertown learning various techniques and rescues.” What's it like being a firefighter?  “It’s great.  I have been a firefighter since the age of 16-- it was just second nature for me to join.  I’m following in my dad’s footsteps…
