Cheapest Gas

Gas Prices Remain Steady This Week

Find the cheapest gas in the Macungie area

In the last month, gas prices have jumped about 30 cents in Macungie, but this last week saw little change, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. The surge in gasoline prices has been driven somewhat by rising crude oil prices but more directly because of refinery maintenance issues. This has meant less gasoline being produced and fewer supplies, which has pushed prices higher. Locally, the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Macungie and Lower Mac area is $3.759, up 1 cent since last week, 30.5 cents higher than a month ago and 5 cents higher than a year ago. In Pennsylvania, the average price of self-serve gasoline is now $3.799 per gallon, up 2.6 cents since last week. Nearby, the cheapest price for regular …

2012 Was Most Expensive Year For Gas, AAA Says

2012 was an expensive year to drive.

If you found your wallet a little lighter at the end of 2012, your driving may have something to do with that. AAA reports that 2012 was the most expensive year on record for gas prices with a national average of $3.60. The year before, 2011, takes second place with an average of $3.51 and 2008 comes in third with an average of $3.25. “Record high gas prices have made this the most expensive year yet for motorists,” said Jenny M. Robinson, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic in a press release. “Factors as volatile as major hurricanes, refinery outages and tension in the Middle East resulted in significant frustration for people filling up their cars.” Pennsylvania was not one of the most expensive states for gas…

Gas Prices Will Drop Through End of Year, AAA Says

AAA does not expect gas prices to have a major impact on travel volume, but consumers could have more money to spend on holiday shopping, dining and entertainment if prices drop through December as expected.

AAA estimates the national average price of gasoline will slowly drop through the end of the year and average between $3.20-3.40 a gallon by New Year’s Day. Gas prices dropped about 50 cents a gallon on average from September through early December, but remain at record highs for this time of year. AAA does not expect gas prices to have a major impact on travel volume, but consumers could have more money to spend on holiday shopping, dining and entertainment if prices drop through December as expected. AAA projects 93.3 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holidays -- an increase of 1.6 percent over the 91.8 million people who traveled last year. This increase brings holiday travel figures to …

With Gas Prices "Crashing" Where's the Cheapest Gas?

U.S. gas prices have dropped 46 cents a gallon over the past two months.

Gas prices in the United States have dropped by 10 cents in the last three weeks, according to the Lundberg Survey of fuel prices, which was released Sunday. The Associated Press reports that the average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.38.  In Macungie and Lower Mac, the cheapest places to fill up your tank Monday were Turkey Hill on Main Street and both Wawas in Lower Mac -- Hamilton Blvd. and Willow Lane -- all offering $3.50 a gallon. Prices were considerably lower in New Jersey, with gas stations there charging $3.20 a gallon, according to figures from MapQuest. Trilby Lunberg, publisher of the Lunberg Survey, told CNN the drop in prices was due to problems at refineries being resolved, as well as a seasonal drop in demand…

I don't care if it's a few cents more expensive but I will always fill up at the Shell on Brookside and Lower Mac. "Brookside Deli"... The staff is always friendly and courteous, the owner takes pride in making the location look nice, the food is good... and to boot shell gas is known to be high quality.. Maybe it's just in my head but I swear I get slightly better gas mileage with "branded" gas …   more ›

Pain at the Pump: Gas Prices Rising Here, Statewide

Household budget feeling tighter in recent weeks? Higher gas prices might be to blame.

Gas prices in your neighborhood are ticking up.  The current average price of a gallon of gas in Pennsylvania is $3.889 and rising, up from $3.669 a month ago. See the chart below to see the trend line: Locally, here's where to find the best deal: $3.87 Turkey Hill Minit Markets 141 W Main St (Macungie) $3.88 H and S Service Center 1915 Brookside Road (Lower Macungie) $3.90 Wawa 3321 Willow Ln (Lower Macungie) Despite the rise, analyst Patrick DeHaan of GasBuddy.com—the parent company of PennsylvaniaGasPrices.com—thinks prices will drop soon. "Even with Isaac long gone, the oil industry is still bringing capacity back online- at refineries and oil rigs, which is keeping pressure on prices," DeHaan said in a press release. "Supply remains …

Gas Prices Suddenly Up 10 Cents a Gallon? Why?

Gas prices have been high lately, but why the recent steep spike?

Though gas prices have been on the rise due to global concerns, you may have notice a really steep spike Tuesday -- as much as 8 to 10 cents a gallon. We have Hurricane Isaac to thank for this one. According to a story in the Christian Science Monitor, oil refineries in the Gulf of Mexico are taking precautionary measures and are shutting down for safety reasons. Prices will go even higher as the down time extends, the story says. And just in time for the Labor Day weekend. Check out the information under Patch's "Commute" button to help you find the best gas prices in your area.

How Far Will Gas Prices Drop?

AAA says prices are the lowest they've been since January.

Gas prices have fallen below $3.50 a gallon for the first time since January, AAA Mid-Atlantic reported this week. “Not since late-January of this year have we seen gas prices in the Philadelphia area below the $3.50 per gallon mark,” said Jenny M. Robinson, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic.  “Now that crude oil has settled in the $80 range, down from triple-digit highs this spring, gas prices are shifting downward as well. Analysts believe the recent drop in prices will likely last through the summer months and could potentially drop to the $3 to $3.25-per-gallon range in some areas.” It was $3.26 per gallon as of 8:30 p.m. Thursday along Main Street in Macungie. According to the release, the average price for…
