LMMS Students Collect Books to 'Take the Sting Out of Sandy'

Lower Macungie Middle School students are collecting books and selling t-shirts to help NJ students affected by Superstorm Sandy

Superstorm Sandy may be gone, but, even here in the Lehigh Valley, her impact is clearly not forgotten. Indeed, students at Lower Macungie Middle School are doing their part to remember Sandy and the devastation the storm caused up and down the east coast through an ongoing service project dubbed “Take the Sting Out of Sandy.” Following the storm, LMMS students suggested to school administrators that LMMS do something to help out students in New Jersey, according to a press release from East Penn School District. This suggestion ultimately evolved into an ongoing building-wide project in which LMMS has been collecting gently used middle school and elementary school level books to donate to the schools of the Toms River, N.J./Ocean County, …

Honk if You Like Snow Geese!

Snow geese flock to field in Lower Macungie Township, causing those in passing vehicles to pull over and gawk.

Simply put, they were car-stoppers. A major gaggle of unapologetic snow geese kept coming and coming and coming late Thursday afternoon to create quite a spectacle in a Lower Macungie Township field. It was like the scene out of Hitchcock's "The Birds," only more controlled and totally uninterested -- fortunately -- in attacking humans. Cars alone were the victims of the sheer number of geese. Area car washes will benefit. Many probably heard and then could see a sizable flock overhead in the Trexlertown area. Anyone who cared to further investigate or continued home in the area of Mill Creek, Spring Creek or Lower Macungie roads found an even more astounding scene as the countless number of birds had settled in a cut cornfield between the…

East Penn 7th Graders Impress Judges in Bookmark Contest

Business and Professional Women’s Club of the Lehigh Valley honors five local middle schoolers for their entries into the 14th Annual Women’s History Month Bookmark Contest.

On the surface, Women’s History Month and the childhood classic “The Mouse and the Motorcycle” may not seem to have a whole lot in common. But, for Eyer Middle School seventh-grader Justin Hower, the Beverly Cleary work served as the centerpiece of his winning entry into the Business and Professional Women’s Club (BWPC) of the Lehigh Valley’s 14th Annual Women’s History Month Bookmark Contest. Hower’s contest submission, which included an essay and a drawing about Cleary, took first place in this year’s competition. His work has been made into a bookmark, which was unveiled at a BWPC award program on March 19. Find the Hornet

Where was Vespa Last Week?

We know now that he's a "Green" hornet, but which recycling bins was he visiting?

Where was Vespa this week? Obviously he believes in recycling since he's on a Paper Retriever bin. Or maybe he's just partial to the EHS's green and gold. In any case, this week Vespa is at Lower Macungie Middle School. Stop back Tuesday to see where he'll be next week!
