Million-Gallon Water Main Leak is Fixed

It was not a severe leak, DRBC rep says.

In the middle of  Monday's Macungie Borough Council meeting, during the borough manager's report, somewhere between the CIPPL and generator updates, Manager Chris Boehm mentioned that the "missing water" had been found. Though she said nothing more about it during the meeting, afterward she said that about 1 million gallons was unaccounted for in the monthly water report. "All I could think of is 'where's the sink hole,' " Boehm said. But there is no sink hole and there won't be one—not one due to this leak, anyway. Longtime residents will remember an enormous sinkhole that occurred on West Chestnut Street in 1986. But that area was built on a landfill, according to Doug McNair, Macungie's waterworks operator. What they found last month, …

Don't Let Bogus Letter Scare You

Don't be fooled into thinking you have to act on the letter you may get from American Water Resources. You don't.

Boehm said at Monday's council meeting that she has had conversations with representatives of American Water Resources and has asked them not to send the letters. However, the company said it would be sending them anyway. American Water Resources is based in Voorhees, N.J. Its website says it provides "drinking water, wastewater and other …

West End Trail Will Close for 5 Days

The main artery to several businesses will close for paving.

West End Trail, the main artery between busy Route 100 and several businesses, will close at 7 a.m. July 9 for paving. The stretch between Macungie's main artery and CVS, Turkey Hill and the Macungie Post Office will be closed for five days -- weather permitting, according to Borough Manager Chris Boehm. "The extent of the work zone is West End Trail from the intersection of SR 100 for approximately 250', just before the second entrance to the Turkey Hill, she said in an email. "The traffic signal at West End Trail/SR 100 will be placed in ‘flash’ mode for this time period since no active side streets exist," she said.  A detour route will be created as traffic will be flagged at Brookfield Drive and SR 100 at peak traffic volume periods …

Thats funny, when Spring Creek Rd Bridge was shut down for replacement, the traffic signal was still left on for a single house driveway. I believe there are several businesses/residents that use this signal. PADOT where are you? Also, why are you allowing five days for repaving-- that is ridiculous. Finally why are forcing people to use a private driveway as a detour? This is BS   more ›
