Macungie Relay for Life Begins Friday

The annual event supports cancer research.

Macungie's annual Relay for Life—the yearly love fest of hope, memories and fundraising— begins with opening ceremonies at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Macungie Memorial Park.  As always, walkers who have collected donations for the American Cancer Society will circle the park for the full 24-hour duration of the event. This year's theme is a carnival, according to coordinator Cheryl Saul. "We have live bands, clowns, magic show, a bounce house and an obstacle course, carnival games, crafts and lots of good food," she said.  The happy, sad, hopeful luminaria ceremony is at 9 p.m., and the closing ceremony is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday.  Lower Macungie Patch welcomes any and all photos of the event that you might like to share!

Sherwin Williams Workers Give Back During National Painting Week

Each Year the Paint Co. tries to help out in the community.

National paint retailer Sherwin Williams likes to send its employees out into the community every year during National Painting Week to give back to the folks who support it all year long. This year, workers from the Sherwin Williams in Lower Macungie put their expertise to work at Macungie Memorial Park, specifically in Memorial Hall's restrooms and a connecting hallway. They used the very popular "Kilm Beige," says Matt Devenuto, the store manager and ring leader for the day of painting. Assistant Manager John Mularczyk and Matt Harakal, a property management sales rep, also rolled up their sleeves to help. Decorator Erin Eckhard stayed at the store in the Shoppes at Caramoor Village. Devenuto reached out to help with the Ben Event last …

Borough of Macungie

One Million Gallons of Missing Water, Dog Park Discussed at Macungie Council

Earth Day in the borough is also discussed.

Macungie Council members discussed a full slate of topics Monday, some heavy, some light. Here are five you should know: 1. Interest in creating a dog park at the borough's Spruce Park is growing. 2. Borough officials noticed a 1 million-gallon discrepancy in water usage between January and February. The missing water was found in early March in the form of a burst water main near Tyler Pipe. 3. Council President Christopher Becker enlisted as many council members as arms he could good-naturedly "twist" to help with this year's Earth Day project on April 27. Becker would like as many residents as possible to join in the fun. Everyone who helps is invited to a hot dog lunch in Macungie Memorial Park. 4. Council discussed just how much taxes…

If the commissioners were forthright and intellectual with the citizens, they would have explained the entire situation already on how they were going to handle this loss of water, not simply report on it. If your house was ready to catch on fire with a possible electrical short, would you ignore it? That is what the Patch has reported on. Why should I not believe the patch? Again, a good borough…   more ›
