Freezing Rain Advisory Through 10 a.m. Saturday

Beware of icy roads.

The Lehigh Valley including Macungie is under a freezing rain advisory for light freezing rain from 7 p.m. tonight until 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. WFMZ said the storm could affect the Friday evening commute. We could wake up to an icy glaze tomorrow. The Weather Service says: Precipitation is expected to change to rain Saturday and rain could be heavy at times. Sunday will be sunny and warmer with a daytime high in the 40s.

With a bit of snow in the forecast Thursday night, this seems to be as good as a time as any to review East Penn School District’s arrival guidelines for elementary school students in the event of a delayed opening on Friday. East Penn parents already have one delayed opening under their belts this week – and a two-hour one no less – and reports from elementary teachers and staff are that there was a bit of confusion about who needed to be where and when. The winter storm a week before Valentine's Day showed Macungie a little love when it turned out to be milder than expected.

Winter Storm to Hit Macungie Friday

A winter storm could bring up to 16 inches of snow before it's over, says the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service says a winter storm will bring snow, sleet and rain to Macungie and Lower Mac Friday into early Saturday morning. The major impact will be in New England where a nor'easter-type storm could bring blizzard conditions and almost a foot of snow. The National Weather Service is predicting 6 to 16 inches of snow for this storm and WFMZ predicts 6 to 12 inches for the Lehigh Valley. Snow should develop Friday morning, then mix with or change to sleet and rain from southeast to northwest. Snow, Sleet Warning for Macungie Friday

The work and school week may end with a wintry mix, according to weather forecasters

Another winter storm is on the way and it could make for very messy travel on Friday morning. Snow is expected to start falling in Macungie after in the very early hours of Friday around 1 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Snow will be followed by a mix of sleet. freezing rain and rain changing to all rain after 9 a.m. Friday. The precipitation could change back to snow Friday night. Then the storm will clear out leaving sunny skies, blustery breezes and a high of 33 degrees on Saturday. WFMZ also says we can expect a wintry mix Thursday night and Friday with some snow accumulation possible, but Ed Hanna says it's too soon to accurately predict accumulations.

Snow Likely in Macungie Friday Afternoon

Macungie and Lower Mac could get a few inches of snow later on Friday, according to the National Weather Service

A quick moving storm is expected to bring snow to Macungie Friday afternoon and night, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service. Snow could start falling late Friday afternoon and bring about an inch to our area, the Weather Service predicts. The National Weather Service says there is an 80 percent chance we'll see an inch between the time the snow starts around 2 p.m. and dark. After dark but before the storm ends around 3 a.m. there is a 90 percent chance we'll see another dusting of less than an inch. Accuweather says we can expect up to three inches before all is said and done. Both say temperatures will continue to stay well below freezing over the weekend. We could see a warm up next week.

Forecast: Deep Freeze in Macungie All Week, Then Snow

Daytime highs will be well below freezing in Lower Macungie and Macungie for the rest of the week

There's snow in the forecast along with a big chill that will keep daytime high temperatures from rising out of the 20s for the rest of the week. An arctic air mass is bringing the coldest weather so far this season -- perhaps even colder than anything we experienced last winter, according to the National Weather Service. Frigid temperatures at the end of the week will have an added attraction: snow. Though the national weather service offers no accumulation yet, other forecasters are predicting 2-4 inches.

Update: Expect Up to 3 Inches of Snow Tonight

The National Weather Service says we could get some snow and sleet Tuesday night into Wednesday.

The forecast has changed, but it still sounds like a night to stay home and catch up on Law & Order reruns: The National Weather Service now says that tonight's forecast calls for a 100 percent chance of snow, possibly mixed with sleet, mainly after 10 p.m. with a low temp around 30. New snow and sleet accumulation of up to 3 inches is possible. On Wednesday, there is an 80 percent chance that rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet will continue before 1 p.m. beforea chance of rain. Little or no ice accumulation is expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Otherwise, daytime highs will remain above freezing until Friday.

Snowy Saturday in Macungie

After a slow start, snow piled up to drop a few inches and make roads slippery.

With most people not working on Saturday, the snowfall that we woke to provided most of us with something to watch on a lazy morning into the afternoon. The snow was light to begin with, but by late morning picked up in intensity and had dropped about 2 inches into the early afternoon. Accumulation is expected to be 3 to 5 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Snow is expected to taper off this evening. Although some outerlying areas were reporting accidents, mostly on secondary roads, none was reported in the Macungie, Lower Macungie or Alburtis areas by 2 p.m.

Major Snowstorm Could Hit Eastern Pa. Next Week

Forecasters are keeping a close eye on computer models that show a big snowstorm could be headed to eastern Pennsylvania around Dec. 19-20

Update 11 a.m. Thursday: WFMZ reports a storm is looking increasingly likely for Tuesday-Wednesday but the big question is whether it will be rain or snow.
