Snow Expected Tonight Into Tuesday Morning

Snow Monday night into Tuesday could make tomorrow's morning commute a little messy.

The National Weather Service says we can expect to get about an inch of snow tonight - enough snow to affect the Tuesday morning commute. An additional inch or so could accumulate Tuesday, possibly mixing with rain. The forecast says: Tonight: Snow likely after 1 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 28. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. Tuesday: Snow before noon, then a chance of rain and snow. High near 36. Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Lehigh Valley

Two to four inches of snow are possible Wednesday into Thursday along with gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the calendar, there are six more weeks of autumn, but somebody apparently forgot to tell Mother Nature. November has barely begun and the Lehigh Valley is already under a winter weather advisory.  On Wednesday morning National Weather Service predicted snow will start after 1 p.m. with a daytime snow accumulation of two to four inches possible. It will be breezy with a north wind 14 to 22 mph with gusts as high as 37 mph. Parkland schools dismissed early Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, snow and sleet will start before 10 p.m. Wednesday followed by rain and sleet with a low temperature around 32. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible. With the snow and wind predicted there may be …

Photo of the Day

Fun While it Lasted

Brief morning snowstorm only turns out to be a novelty.

If you slept in this morning, you probably missed it . . . the snow, that is. With temperatures hovering right at the freezing mark, snow began to fall in the East Penn area before 8 this morning. Intense at times, the snowfall provided a white curtain that somewhat challenged visibility at times and quickly laid on cars and eventually roads. But just as driving might have begun to get tricky, blue skies emerged around 9 a.m. and the snowfall ended. Snow on the roadways quickly melted, and the thin layer on grass and rooftops soon followed. The brief but intense storm was just a tease for the snow-starved among us.

Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol Predicts Lots of Snow

Weather watchers Bobby and Suzy have a fast-growing fan base

Starting your own weather service seems a bit like creating your own mail delivery – the kind of thing only new countries and millionaire businessmen do. Bobby Martrich and Susan Haberacker are neither but they managed to launch the “Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol with Bobby and Suzy” 11 months ago and have seen it grow by great gusts. The Weather Patrol, which issues forecasts from its Facebook page, has more than 4,300 fans. Its popularity has encouraged Martrich and Haberacker, both 35, to move the Weather Patrol to its own web site in January and sell advertisements to offset costs and make money for their labors. The business partners plan to drop their names from the title when it moves to www.lehighvalleyweatherpatrol.com   Even after…

Five Things to Know Today: October 31

First thing you need to know is that East Penn Schools are closed today. Please spread the word!

1. Weather: Mother Nature must feel guilty: The National Weather Service forecast for our area says it will be partly sunny today with a high near 51 degrees. 2. In Case You Missed It: You were probably living it. Lower Mac Patch saw about a foot of snow Saturday, which was bad enough for the end of October. The weight of the snow on still-leafy trees brought down branches and wiped out power to more than 70,000 Lehigh County homes. 3. Quote of the Day: Snow provokes responses that reach right back to childhood. Andy Goldsworthy. 4. Coming Up: You deserve a treat. Alyssa Warner has a list that will show you exactly where to find them. 5. Today in History: On this day in this in 1926, Harry Houdini, the most celebrated magician and escape …

It's Ba-a-a-ck . . . Snow, That Is

Pre-Halloween storm is a trick but no treat for region.

The forecast leading up to today just didn't seem possible. Snow, and it wasn't even Halloween yet. As if promises of a tease of a snowfall weren't enough, updated forecasts called for several inches. But would it really happen? The region had its answer as snow fell by morning. The snow was plentiful and it was heavy, so much so that by late morning the weight was pulling down electrical lines, causing minor fires and power outages. At 3 p.m., PPL was reporting nearly 5,900 in Lower Macungie Township were without power. (For current power-outage information, click here.) The National Weather Service refers to the snowfall as a "major early season winter storm." The region can expect 8-12 inches of snow, tapering off between 10 p.m. and …

Similarly, thank you, Jan. There was much beauty and Halloween fun to be seen when out and about on Saturday. Unfortunately, the heavy snow that helped make those scenes created much havoc. But again, thanks for noticing and taking time to say so. Thanks also to our viewer from Alburtis for bringing an additional image to viewers. We always encourage participation to make it as complete as …   more ›

Poll Result: East Penn Should be Open on Thanksgiving Monday

Respondents to an online Patch survey say district should make-up September "snow day" on the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Students in East Penn School District will be heading to class on the Monday after Thanksgiving if the respondents to an online Patch poll get their way. The poll question, included in an Oct. 3 Patch article about the school district's decision to make up one of two September snow days today, asked: “Should schools in East Penn be open on the Monday after Thanksgiving?” Since then 1245 Patch users have participated in the poll, with 1213 respondents, or 97 percent, selecting the answer, “Yes. The district should save its snow days for the winter months.” Two percent of those who took part in the online poll (32 respondents) chose "No, it's the opening day of deer season," as their answer. The poll results are not scientific. Class is in …
