Substance in Woman's Car at LVH Not Hazardous

A Berks County woman came to Lehigh Valley Hospital complaining of skin irritation and brought in a suspected hazardous substance for testing.

Editor's note: This report was updated at 1 p.m. Saturday to include the latest information from police. Salisbury Township Police confirmed Friday that a suspicious substance brought to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by an emergency room patient yesterday was not hazardous. Salisbury Police Det. Kevin Kress said the FBI tested the substance, described as a white powder, but did not release information on what it was. Investigators said it was not the result of a terrorist attack, he said. A Berks County woman found the substance in her mailbox Thursday and accidentally rubbed some of it on her face, Kress said. She suffered a skin irritation and drove to LVH with the substance in the trunk of her car, he said. Kress said the substance…

EHS Grad Interns with NJ Law Firm

A University of Maryland dean's scholar, Julie Macomb brings experience from prior work with NCIS and terrorism issues.

Julie M. Macomb of Lower Macungie Township, a 2006 Emmaus High School graduate, has accepted a summer internship with the law firm of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus. Though the firm is based in Bridgewater, N.J., Macomb will work from its Pond Road office in South Whitehall Township, also the home of  the law offices of Tallman, Hudders & Sorrentino. Macomb is currently a student at Widener University Law School. She earned a bachelor of arts degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Maryland in 2010 where she majored in criminology/criminal justice and French language/literature with a minor in terrorism studies.
