Scanner: Fire Rips Through Emmaus Duplex

Twin home was engulfed with flames soon after initial reports, according to emergency transmissions. At least one person received smoke inhalation.

A two-alarm fire tore through a twin home in the eastern section of Emmaus early Monday, sickening at least one and badly damaging the two joined dwellings, according to emergency scanner transmissions. Fire was reported about 12:40 a.m. on the rear porch at 502 E. Main St., according to the transmissions. A second caller, from the Dalton Street side, quickly reported a fire to the rear as well. An Emmaus ambulance was summoned to tend to at least one smoke inhalation victim, according to another transmission, even before the second alarm was struck. The first arriving Emmaus firefighters requested a second alarm, bringing a tanker from Vera Cruz, a pumper from Western Salisbury and a Rapid Intervention Team from Alburtis, the latter to …

Vera Cruz Celebrates 60 Years at Homecoming

The 60th annual celebration will be held today in Mystic Chain Park.

Music, “Uncle Jeffrey,” classic cars, cake walks, lots of food, and more will be featured at the 60th Annual Homecoming of Vera Cruz. It will be held 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, rain or shine at Mystic Chain Park; however, the day’s activities begin at 9:30 a.m. with a homecoming service held at the Vera Cruz E.C. Church, led by the Rev. Robert Klersy. Mopar Madness of the Lehigh Valley will display some classic cars at the event to benefit Dream Come True. Some special activities include raffles, a coloring contest for kids, a bake sale and a free hot dog for anyone wearing a homecoming T-shirt from previous years.
