Macungie Woman Hurt in Catapulting Car, Police Say

Amanda C. MacBride and a Mertztown passenger were injured in airborne car that hit two trees before getting bounced back onto Lower Macungie roadway, troopers report.

Two area women were injured Jan. 26 when their vehicle hit a tree, was catapulted onto the passenger's side bumper and struck another tree, police said. The driver, Amanda C. MacBride, 20, of Macungie was moderately hurt, according to state police at Fogelsville. Her passenger, Amy N. Sauerwald, 19, of Mertztown was slightly injured. MacBride was driving her 2001 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on Longswamp Road near Smith Lane at 2:40 p.m., police said. She failed to round a curve and drove off the roadway, striking a tree. The car went airborne, landing on the shoulder with the right front corner digging into the dirt, police said. The car rotated in such a way as to allow the car to hit a second tree with a support post on the driver's side. …
