Frisbees Among Items Stolen from Cars, Police Say

Purse and car stereo face plate were more likely the targets of thieves entering cars in Lower Macungie Township.

Almost as fast as you can say Wham-o, one or more thieves made off with some valuables in a Lower Macungie Township neighborhood, including some Frisbees. It's likely that the Frisbees weren't the real target, but several of the flying discs got snatched up in the loot anyway during the most recent incidence of thefts from motor vehicles in the township, police said. True, the Frisbees were of stated competition quality, but it's more likely that they were victims of circumstance, yielding to the more popular woman's handbag and car stereo face plate. A backpack and some other items were taken as well, police said. Vehicles owned by Brandon Mulcahy, 23, of Whitehall and Hannah Griffith, 35, of Lower Macungie were parked in the 3600 block …

Second Lower Mac Vehicle Stolen with Keys Inside, Police Say

Vehicle thefts highlight rash of break-ins involving unlocked vehicles in the township.

A week after the first such incident, a second vehicle in Lower Macungie Township was stolen this week when someone found the keys inside, according to police. From there, they helped themselves and drove away with the 2002 Isuzu Trooper, police said. The sport-utility vehicle belongs to Craig Steven Nelson of the 1200 block of Butternut Lane, said state police at Fogelsville. The vehicle was taken from outside the residence between 7 p.m. and 7:15 a.m. Police did not specify a break-in, so the vehicle likely was unlocked. A similar incident, in which a vehicle door was unlocked and the keys left inside, was reported Jan. 17 in the 2000 block of Rolling Meadow Drive. A grey 2010 Toyota Camry was taken from that residence. In the most …

Windows Smashed to Break into Lower Mac Cars, Police Say

Break-ins to locked vehicles are a departure from the norm of thefts from unlocked cars.

At least one prowler of Lower Macungie Township vehicles upped the ante recently by smashing windows to steal valuables inside, according to police. To date, plenty of thefts from motor vehicles have been reported in the township but very few to locked vehicles. However, that trend changed overnight Jan. 14 when an unidentified resident had windows of two vehicles shattered to gain access to valuables, according to state police at Fogelsville. The windows of the two vehicles were broken outside of 5116 Jarrett Farm Road between 11 p.m. Jan. 14 and 6 a.m. Jan. 15, police said. Items taken were a GPS, flashlight, $20, and insurance and registration cards. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 610-395-1438.

Police: Stolen Car Had Open Door, Keys in Ignition

2010 Toyota Camry was taken overnight from Lower Macungie Township driveway.

If police were looking for an incident to promote awareness to lock your vehicle to avoid theft, seemingly this would be it. Almost weekly, state police at Fogelsville report one or more thefts from vehicles of loose change, electronics, important papers and more in Lower Macungie Township. But a recent incident was not simply a matter of valuables being taken from an unlocked vehicle. This time, the item taken was, in fact, the vehicle itself, police said. Imagine a prowler's surprise when he found not only the car unlocked but the keys in the ignition. Sometime between 8 p.m. Jan. 16 and 7:15 a.m. Jan. 17, someone made that discovery and drove away with the grey, 2010 Toyota Camry belonging to Derek Richard Tyner, police said. The car …
