  • On the article College Costs Way Too Much, Emmaus High Student Says

Hindsight, I'm happy I did the undergrad thing. I wouldnt be the same person had I not. That being said, I did transfer credits from LCCC to a 4 year. So I saved money that way. And I went to a state school which was at the time a good value. I'm guessing it still is. No I am not using my specific degree.... BUT college is the kind of thing where you get out of it what you put into it. I was extremely active in co curricular activities including leadership organizations. The work-study job I had in the school admissions office really taught me more then any classroom experience. I had some great mentors who helped me grow up.

Also, I lived in a dorm which I thought was a great experience. I'm a bit saddened in some ways that my school pretty much no longer has traditional dorms. It's almost entirely apartments. Part of the experience was dorm living. You learned alot about yourself and the real world scraping by in a dorm for a year or two.

I do have some regrets, I took out more loans then I needed. I fell into the trap of the student loan and I'll be paying that bill another 10 years. Yes, my school loan bill in total is pretty slim compared to some friends since I went the value route, but it's a nuisance nonetheless and something I pay every month.

Advice for seniors would be to do your homework. Really think about what you want to get out of college. Soul search. I also went to grad school which was a complete waste of money and time.

    Hi Linda,
As I always do, to bring it back to issues... which of the 2 centerpieces of my campaign do you disagree with? Note both of these ideas are opposed by the current BOC.

    1. Transferable development Rights program as a free market mechanism for land preservation. Note these programs have been wildly successful throughout the state.
    http://www.ronbeitler.com/2013/02/21/growth-issues-the-key-is-free-market-solutions-for-land-preservation/

(Note when asked directly his thoughts about this at the CEPTA candidates night, Roger Reis danced around it and gave an answer about something else)

    2. Cost benefit analysis of lifecycle costs of waivers and upzoning to higher intensities to ensure taxpayers aren't shouldering the legacy costs of development. (making development pay it's own way)
    http://www.ronbeitler.com/2013/01/09/letter-to-boc-18-lifecycle-cost-benefit-analysis/

As much as you want to deflect from issues, these fundamental differences in philosophy is what this campaign is about. At least on my end.

Everytime you post a personal attack it's an opportunity for me to talk about the issues.

Yes, Mcnabb was great. I won't argue that. But not my favorite. That is RANDALL the most electrifying QB in modern history! One of the quarterback that invented basically the way the position is played today.

If he had a coach that cared about offense AT ALL he'd have a super bowl ring and this article would be about him.

To give Jaindl credit which I always do.. He doesnt take up-front public money in the form of TIF's or other tax gimmicks. BUT what his developments do is put the burden on the taxpayer for the inevitable cycle of endless future "improvements"... (engineer speak for endless expensive fixes to traffic congestion issues)

This is why in Lower Macungie Township I am advocating for lifecycle analysis of zoning changes. Meaning you take into account long term cost benefit analysis to prove or dis-prove that a project will turn a "profit" for taxpayers in terms of liabilities vs. revenue.

Unfortunately your thinking is dated. It has been proven that certain types of development cost taxpayers more in legacy costs then they contribute. My central argument isn't that I simply don't like this type of development.. (although I don't....there are no "high end" strip malls.... ) my argument is that it COSTS US MONEY in the long term.

Read and learn about the "growth ponzi scheme". David Jaindl's brand of greenfield growth IS the growth ponzi scheme.

Growth as economic development is a broken philopsophy.
"The world has changed, and so must we. The idea of growth as something that must be induced through large public investments in infrastructure needs to go away. Not only is it not true, we've made ourselves broke proving it. We could't do it much longer if we wanted."

Signs for those with lists I've dropped signs as well. Goal is 2 signs for every 25 households. You'll get pretty good at gauging who is a sign candidate.

Have fun! I love this stuff. Meeting people and having conversations with neighbors is the best part of campaigning. On a nice day it's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

    Letter writers:
I got backlogged a bit, but I'm working on some packets today. Will be distributing asap. Brian is working his volunteers and lists as well.

May 8th is the call bank. Let me know if you would like to participate.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

@ "Adam" why stop at a snippet here is the whole email... (not sure what your trying to prove) Do incumbent posters ever talk about issues?

Thank you everyone for volunteering to either letter write or hit a door list. I have 4 packets out now and another 4 going out today. When you complete one if you are willing to do another please let me know. I have personally hit 400 doors so far! Your help is greatly appreciated.

For those of you with packets already here are a couple points:

    Residents want to talk about:
    1. Jaindl and development
Remember, we're dealing with inherent conflict of interest. With Jaindl, the choice of quarry vs. warehouses was taken from us. Without the Lawsuit, there would be no plan B.

    2. Police protection
Complicated issue. Let residents know my stance is data driven. Statistically speaking are we safe community? The answer is yes. Remind residents that a police force = a millage tax and we should proceed with caution.

    3. Allen Organ - President of the board stands to benefit up to a quarter of a million dollars on a sweetheart deal that should have never taken place. 250 apartments will be built where previously they weren't allowed. Decisions should be made with resident interests in mind, not developer or personal.

    cont....

    Email April 26 to supporters
Remember to mark down those you qualify as "lean support or strong support". When you are finished I will pick up your packets. I'm using this data for get out the vote calls the week of the election.

Our friend "Adam" here has never once offered anything of substance about actual township issues. No thoughts on growth concerns. No thoughts on police force. Nothing. Just decade old quote.

Wouldn't be surprised if his address is Lemoyne, PA. Hey we got television ads in a township race wouldn't be surprised if we had paid trolls.

And last item.... The wonderful thing about blogs is people you are accusing can challenge you. And I won't allow this election to be about nonsense. So for those interested here is a link to the most glaring POLICY and ISSUES differences between myself and the incumbents.

    http://www.ronbeitler.com/2013/05/07/commissioner-race-glaring-policy-contrasts/

Read about my ideas and judge for yourself if my solutions for our growth issues are based in conservative principle or not. If my ideas and solutions are good for our community. If valuing quality of life, property values and our community character is something worth fighting for.

If you believe as I do that fighting to stop our area from turning into what so many moved here to get away from is worthwhile. Take that information and then vote. Don't be fooled by political strategy, talking points and intentionally misleading letters to the editor.
