Dickey's is Open in Wescosville

This little place serves up Southern food fast.

When Dickey’s Barbeque Pit opened in the little plaza across from Walmart, I had never heard of the family-owned chain before.  But after hearing good things from friends of mine, I finally decided to give it a try.

Since it’s so small, there’s not much of an atmosphere, but the smell definitely catches your attention.  As you walk in, you’re hit with a distinct scent of barbeque sauce, meat, and cornbread.

Since the place began in Dallas, Texas, the menu is all about Southern barbeque and comfort food.  Traditionally, you choose a sandwich (they come in three sizes) or a meat plate (which include two sides and a roll) and what kind of meat you want.  Their best-seller is the Texas Style Chopped Beef Brisket, but they also have Sliced Beef Brisket, Southern Pulled Pork, Virginia Style Ham, Tender Turkey Breast, Marinated Chicken Breast, Old Recipe Polish Sausage, Spicy Cheddar Sausage, and Fall Off the Bone Pork Ribs.

After that, you can pick out a side or two. Dickey’s has all the traditional Southern sides like coleslaw, potato salad, and baked beans, but they also have things like waffle fries, mac & cheese, and green beans with bacon.  Plus, anything you order will come with a side of slightly-spicy barbeque sauce.

My meal:  A Lil’ Hoagie with Texas Style Chopped Beef Brisket and a side of Dill Potato Salad.  The brisket was good, but the potato salad was a little disappointing.  I’d give it a 4.5/5.
